Kennin was 10 days late. I had to go into the hospital on Tuesday April 4th to start the induction process. I spent that night having constant contractions and got no rest. The next morning they let me take a shower and then continue with some pitocin. I was in some horrible pain and started calling my sister, Noel, to come be with me. Even though Charlie was there with me, he was little comfort for the pain that was making me sick. Noel left school in Houston to come sit with me at the hospital. She held my hand while I got my epidural while Charlie waited in the hall. I finally got some rest after the epidural. At one point Trace and Aurora showed up and we had to hide Trace in the bathroom since we were over our limit of how many people could be in the room with us.
I was making slow but steady progress. The doctor or nurse would come in and check me and tell me, "If you're not dilated to X by X o'clock, then we're going to do a c-section." This went on for a while until they came rushing back into my room and put an oxygen mask on me. They told me that Kennin's heart rate had starting to dip which is a sign that the baby is in distress. They wanted to do a c-section before it was an emergency and I agreed. Kennin was born just an hour later. She was perfection. Her daddy went with her into the nursery to get her cleaned up and the nurse was crazy for her. She kept kissing her face (while my mother waited on the other side of the glass getting more and more mad with every kiss).
As soon as I was out of surgery and then out of recovery, I got to hold my baby girl.
Kennin was such a sweet baby. She loved getting her hair washed and she slept with her mouth open because she was so relaxed. We named her Kennin Nell, Kennin is my uncles name and Nell is what I call Noel.
Today she is my sassy girl. She is a total tomboy and often wears wranglers and a Wolverine t-shirt (her outfit today). She loves to be outside and running around. She's full of attitude and hates to be called sweetheart. She's crazy about my parents and will often tell you "'Cause that's how me and Pa roll!" She the best big sister I could ever ask for. She loves Grayson and loves to play with him.
She had her first soccer game this weekend and she ROCKED! She ran after that ball the entire time she played. When the coach asked if anyone wanted to sit out and take a break some of the kids raised their hands to stop playing, but not my Kennin. She loved it!
Thank you, Chickie, for making me a mommy. I adore you and I'm so incredibly proud of everything you do!
