Crock Pot Girls, Take 1

A friend of mine (Hi, Celeste!) "liked" a page on Facebook called Crock Pot Girls and of course that caught my eye.  I've always wanted to cook in my crock pot but never knew what to make in it.  Who doesn't want to put a bunch of ingredients into a pot in the morning, wipe your hands clean, and then have your dinner ready later that evening?!  I'm going to start blogging about the recipes I've tried and how they go over.  Side note... I'm not really into some of the recipes that you have to brown meat or do a bunch of prep work.  I would prefer to put raw ingredients in a pot and have it come out delicious.  The thought of handling raw meat in the morning is nauseating to me.

So, today I tried the Pulled Pork BBQ Sandwiches.  Here's how the recipe reads on the page:
1 pork tenderloin
1 bottle of bbq sauce
1 med onion, chopped
cook 6-8 hours on low

So I set off to the grocery store Monday night looking for a pork tenderloin and found that the cheapest one they had at Kroger was $14 and bigger than what would fit in my crock pot.  Instead I bought pork loin center cuts (about 10 pieces of meat) because they were $8 and smaller pieces of meat.  I used Kraft original bbq sauce ($.99!) and diced half of a medium onion.  I then threw all the ingredients in the pot at 8:30am so it would be ready by 4:30pm (we like to eat early around here).   When it was finished, I took the meat out of the pot, shredded it with 2 forks and then put it back in the pot with the remaining sauce.  On the main dish, I spent around $14 (including the buns) score!  I ended up buying some french fries and a bag of salad to finish off the easy meal.  I can't remember how much the fries, bread, and salad were, I'll try to keep better track of it the next meal I make.

OK, I decided on a criteria for how I was going to do this.  Price, prep time, clean up, how it went over with Curtis, and how it went over with the kids (they are REALLY picky eaters).

Price:  I'm going to guess I spent around $20 total on the whole meal.  I call that a win, especially since I fed 3 adults (Noel came to eat) 2 kids and had leftovers for tomorrows lunch.
Prep time:  Almost non existent aside from crudely chopping an onion and shredding the pork, which total, it took me about 20 minutes for both task.
Clean up:  So easy!  Nothing stuck and wiped off of the pot.  There was only one cutting board and no pans to clean up afterword.
Curtis:  He said that it was the second best meal I've made him, only second to the time I made him chicken parmesan over a year ago.
Kids:  This one is a tough.  Kennin would happily eat chicken nuggets and fries, or peanut butter sandwiches for the rest of her life.  Grayson is a little more adventurous but not by much.  Grayson ate more than Kennin did... Kennin, on the other hand, didn't like it and said that wished it didn't have sauce.  Noel broke down and made her a Nutella sandwich to have with her fries.  Boo.

I guess I would have to give this 4 out of 5 stars.  It was yummy to the adults, easy, cheap, and easy to clean up, but the kids didn't like it.

Let me know if any of you try it!
